Cat or Dog person??


"They feed me, they care for me, they must be gods" - Dog
"They feed me, they care for me, I am a god" - Cat

Are you a cat person? Are you a dog person?? I'm not sure...

I'm a dog person. I love few members of the cat family, especially the tiger. I'd love to have a pet tiger in future. I'm not sure if I'd disturb the actual nature by domesticating or petting the tiger. Irrespectively, I still want to pet a tiger. Like the scene from Life of Pi movie.

 I hope I can cuddle a tiger like that...


But, I love dogs. I remember reading this about dog from Jaya book.

"Dogs are considered inauspicious in Hinduism as they are associated with Yama, the god of death, and Bhairava, the fearsome killer form of Shiva. Dogs represent attachment and bondage because they are territorial and possessive of their masters. They constantly seek attention and validation. They therefore become the symbol of neediness, insecurity, attachment and ego, contrasted against the cow which is the symbol of the serene soul." - 107. Renunciation of the Pandavas in Jaya (2011) by Devdutt Pattanaik.




I don't care about the religion aspect which is mentioned about dogs and also compared with cow. That's a different issue and I'm not interested in it.

An interesting thing which Devdutt mentions is "possessive of masters, seek attention and validation... symbol of neediness, insecurity, attachment and ego..."

Whoa. That's true. Having a dog in my house from the last 9 years, and being connected to dogs from my extended family and friends for almost all of my memorable life, I can definitely agree to the first part of Devdutt's statement. But, are they symbol of neediness, insecurity, attachment and ego??

Alternately, do you have a dog as a pet because you are needy, insecure, attached and satisfy your ego?? Is it about you or the dog??

I'm not sure what psychology tells about a cat person or a dog person, but I want to know more about it. Also, hating a cat or hating a dog doesn't mean hating the animal or its species. It's hating to have that animal as a pet. 

And, there are different categories too.
Dog and cat lovers
Dog lover and cat hater
Dog hater and cat lover
Dog and cat haters
Dog lover and neutral towards cats
Cat lover and neutral towards dogs

I'm curious and want to know more about psychology behind a person who chooses a particular animal as a pet, beyond cat and dog too.

Sri Sri - Kala Ravi

This is the translation of Sri Sri's poem 'Kala Ravi'. I tried my best to translate it to English, but it's best read and heard in Telugu. There could be better translation for some words and suggestions are welcome. The word 'pothe poni', which is often repeated in this poem is hard to translate. The literal meaning would be  'let it go if it has to go and don't stop it.'  It is surprising to see such a sentence is aptly said by two words in Telugu. Maybe that's the beauty of it.  Kala Ravi (Oh Poet!) let them go let them go... if they have to go! wife, children, well-wishers - let them go! let them go... let them come let them come... come if they may problems, loss,  anger, thirst, curses - let them come! abuses, friction, hardship - let them come! let it come, let it come... let it happen, let it happen sing, meditate,  smile, dance!  let it happen, let it happen oh poet, best poet!

Classroom Chronicles #2

It’s Thanksgiving Week!!! As part of my morning meeting, I’ve discussed ‘ Thanksgiving ’ with my class. My first Thanksgiving celebration was in 2013 November which was celebrated with my cousins at Uncle’s house and also friends at Endicott College. It fascinated me for one simple reason. You take time, think about people in your life and thank them. I’ve liked it because you express gratitude to the people who were part of your life, and I wanted the kids to feel the same.  For the last few weeks, they really started to enjoy the board games and puzzles. When I introduced the games and mentioned that they were given by my friends, they were very happy that there are people who know about them, thought about them and also gave them something which they enjoy.
