Surgical Strike #2
After the surgical strike,
one of my friend wrote this
“…many of our friends, families and loved ones are going to
lose their lives. This insanity is not worth the lives of our armed forces. It
just is not”
Another friend wrote “This is how we do it”
Most people are happy that a
surgical strike has been executed which allegedly killed terrorists. But, what
is that going to change right now? Do people think about that?
Will it reduce the number of
terrorist attacks? None of the empirical evidence across the world shows just
killing terrorists would reduce attacks. The famous killing of Osama bin Laden
of Al-Qaeda hasn’t reduced Al-Qaeda attacks. The position of Osama bin Laden is
taken by Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Does it bring back the CRPF
personnel who gave up their life? Definitely not
Is this the case of revenge
against terrorists? If it is so, then there is almost no difference in the way
of thinking between both groups.
So, what did this achieve?
Weakening the already frail
relationship between Pakistan and India.
Violating LOC and giving
Pakistan a reason to argue in the international arena.
Showing to the world that
hasty decisions are executed and restraint can’t be exercised.
The positive externality is
branding of such an action for the upcoming elections.
Do people think about this?
Adil Ahmad Dar, a
19-year-old, was the suicide bomber who carried out the attack on CRPF convoy.
What made him do that? What do 19-year olds in other places do? They mostly
start college if they could successfully complete their schooling without
dropping out and have enough money to study at a college.
In such an age, why Adil was
ready to give up his life and kill police personnel?
Isn’t he similar to that of
other 19-year olds across the country? What conditions have led to such
radicalization?
Why couldn’t Adil be as the
same 19-year old from that of Delhi or Bombay?
Is Adil the only person with
such thoughts or is this prevalent among people of same age group in the area?
If Kashmir is part of India
as much as Maharashtra is part of India, why is there such a stark difference
between these two places?
What actions by different
groups of people have motivated such a deadly attack which hasn’t happened in
recent years?
What can be done by people
from other regions for people of Kashmir?
People shouldn’t be asking
for war. Clearly, no war has achieved a goal without losing something. It is
mutually assured destruction for both parties. Did we really cross the stage
where we can’t discuss and have to resort to our weapons? It’s sad to hear
that.
People should be asking
answers for the above questions.
